About the Role

We are looking to appoint a Senior Project Manager/Project Director (PM7) in our Flood, Coast & Maritime (FCM) Redhill team to lead the delivery of complex projects, and/or act as Project Director across a portfolio of projects.  As a recognised key internal reference point you will provide specialist technical guidance to our wider network of Project Managers, both in Flood, Coast & Environment and Water Services business lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Independently plan, execute, monitor and control complex projects in terms of scope, time, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder management for projects with Sales values in excess of £1m.
  • Client Focus: Develops and maintains regular client contact.  Responsible for determining key client interests and drivers on complex projects.  Communicates client interests and drivers to the project team.  Proactively offers other services to the clients to meet their specific challenges and requirements.  Provides support to business development and leads pursuit activities for their areas of the business.
  • Commercial Ability: Demonstrates specialist skills in technical, cost, scheduling, and performance decisions for their assigned projects to deliver as-sold financial metrics or better.  Proactively manages contracts and assesses the technical and commercial risks during both the sales process and project delivery.  Provides mentoring and guidance to more junior project managers in all commercial aspects of project delivery.  Proactively manages overhead budget and chargeability for their team.
  • Quality/Continuous improvement: Consistently and independently applies specialist knowledge and responsible for ensuring compliance with Binnies quality management system.  Consistently provides guidance and direction to others from their project team.  Supports and actively encourages continuous improvement, innovation and efficiency in project delivery. Provides quality management guidance and assistance to more junior Project Managers and promotes a culture that is conducive to quality.
  • People Management: As a Line Manager, leads the performance management process, career planning, learning and development, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required for a small team of professionals.  Undertakes a mentoring role for other Project Managers.  May participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning.
  • Resource Management: As a Manager, owns and leads resource management strategy for their team.  Manages engineering resources for groups across multiple projects.  Responsible for incorporating local resource management into the wider business resource management process.  Required to highlight resource gaps and proactively engages in across P&L liaison and recruitment requirements.
  • Leadership:  As a key leader within the Flood, Coast & Environment business, leads small to medium sized multidiscipline teams.  Specialist in leading and directing others and effective delegation.  Actively uses these skills to build trust and integrity in wider delivery teams.  Acts as Project Director for multiple projects.

Required Attributes

The role is suitable for an individual with a proven track record in the project management of complex projects within the Flood and Coast sector, and a desire to continue to develop their career in the management of complex projects and/or as a Projector Director across a portfolio of projects.  You should possess, and be able to demonstrate, the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • Proven ability to plan, execute, monitor and control projects large professional services projects in the Flood & Coast sector.
  • Leadership skills to manage multi-disciplinary project teams and create positive change.
  • Ability and experience to manage and administer NEC PSC Option C Target Cost contracts, including but not limited to, early warnings, compensation events, programme and payments.
  • Detailed understanding of consultancy commercial models for both project delivery and tender development and the ability to deliver as-sold metrics or better.
  • Ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team with a desire to find a solution.
  • Demonstrated customer-facing success in project management and effective client relationship management.
  • Collaborative individual that effectively builds teams
  • Excellent communicator with internal and external clients and stakeholders to develop business relationships.
  • Be driven to develop and advance your career.
  • Professional qualification in Project Management and/or an engineering discipline
  • Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) or Geography discipline
