This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

Are you intelligent, resourceful, motivated, collaborative, and very much a team player? Are you hard-working, with an interest in working in the fields of law and construction?  We are looking for someone to play a key role within our specialist team that provides advice and expert evidence in legal disputes related to construction and engineering. This role can be based in either our Manchester or London offices.

Working as a researcher in the Expert Witness and Advisory Services team at Ridge offers intellectual challenges and the opportunity to grow and progress in an expanding and interesting sector.  The role is unique and would suit someone who assimilates new concepts quickly, excels at writing reports, has the patience to work with large volumes of evidence, can juggle competing demands, and does not object to occasional long hours working with the team to achieve tight deadlines set by clients.  It can be a high-pressured role as each member of the team has a crucial part to play.

This role will offer you a range of experiences that will allow you to take your career to the next stage.  You will be exposed to senior professionals both in Ridge and externally that few other graduate roles provide.  Highlights include:

  • Working directly with solicitors and barristers from top law firms and chambers.
  • Being involved in interesting projects that are often high profile.
  • Being part of a successful, internationally recognised team of professionals.
  • First-hand experience of different types of dispute resolution including mediation, adjudication, international arbitration, and litigation.
  • Developing commercial awareness.
  • Networking opportunities with solicitors and barristers.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

  • Reviewing and cataloguing client documents and drafting synopses.
  • Reviewing, drafting, editing, and proof-reading experts’ reports.
  • Supporting expert witnesses, who will be advising other professionals and their legal teams, with whatever tasks they need.
  • Attending client meetings, arbitrations and court hearings with experts and legal professionals
  • Being involved in business development.
  • Being part of a team and producing whatever work product is needed in a given situation.

The skills and experience you need to have for this role

  • Highly literate with excellent report-writing ability.
  • High level of academic qualification in any subject (to a minimum of 2.1 degree level, with a higher degree or work experience highly desirable).
  • Experienced user of MS Word and proficient with Excel.
  • No experience of law or construction required.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be an excellent communicator who can articulate voluminous and complex issues at all levels and across a variety of professions, both orally and in writing. You will have an analytical mind and be highly organised with a willingness to work flexibly, whilst demonstrating commercial awareness.  You will be a dedicated team player, who is determined, pays careful attention to detail, and has stamina to work with the team to produce work on time.

You are conscientious with an eye for detail.  The work you do will feed directly into high-value legal disputes so it has to be right.
