Purpose

Would you enjoy working in a beautiful location in the Forest of Dean, within our Café?

Reporting to the Catering and Hospitality Manager, the role is to supervise the front of house team and work with the kitchen team to ensure a smooth and cost-effective operation earmarked by excellent customer service and quality food and drink.

We are looking for experienced candidates who have an enthusiasm for high quality customer service in a busy catering environment. Our mission is to serve simple, well-prepared food made with great ingredients, skill, and passion.

This role will be based at Taurus Crafts in Lydney.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Main responsibilities:

  • To act as shift supervisor of the front of house team in providing a consistent and high-quality service experience for customers and enhances the reputation of the café:
    • Taking and serving orders
    • Beverage quality control
    • Ensuring that the cafe’s internal and external areas are clean, tidy and well presented.
    • Ensuring that income is taken for the items sold and that the till balances at the end of the day.
    • Assist the Catering and Hospitality Manager in the day to day duties and tasks to ensure smooth running of the café.
  • To oversee the effective operation of wash up.
  • Be responsible for the daily operation of the Safer Business Procedures including
    • Completion of all documentation.
    • Supervise the work of others in relation to their Safer Business Tasks.
    • Monitor all tasks and take action to ensure appropriate standards.
    • Take action on problems.
  • Operate and ensure satisfactory completion of the cafe opening and closing procedures including cash handling.
  • Understand the business performance of the cafe and seek continual improvement in sales, average sales and control of costs.
  • To support and contribute to the training of members of the front of house mixed ability team to develop their skills to meet the cafe’s needs.
  • With colleagues across Taurus Crafts, support the development of a sustainable visitor centre operating with a strong customer service focus.
  • To undertake Duty Manager duties from time to time, being responsible for site, opening and closing as per guidelines.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • At least Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification or an ability to update quickly.
  • First Aid training or an ability to update.

Knowledge & Experience

  • An ability to lead a team of differing skills.
  • A sense of humour and a positive attitude.
  • An ability to support the training and development of others.
  • Sales and customer service skills.
  • An awareness of the business operation of a café.

Salary starts at £24,000, rising to £24,675 upon successful completion of probation period.
