We currently have numerous permanent/staff opportunities for Semi Skilled Tradespeople and Labourers within our Scotland Business Unit based from our Depot in Perth, including; Bricklayer(s), Stonemason(s) and Supervisor(s).

 

Business Unit

A busy and fast paced project and maintenance environment involving in a range of multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects, working for a varied range of clients including Local Authorities, Network Rail and Environmental.

 

Projects can typically include civil engineering works and infrastructure projects such as:

Highways & Roads, underbridges, overbridges and footbridges, tunnels, flood alleviation & repairs, earthworks & embankments and rail platforms and station infrastructure etc.

 

We currently have a number of live infrastructure projects and long term renewals and maintenance frameworks underway including Civils Asset Management (CAM), Renewals Enhancement Framework (REF) and a Slabtrack framework.

              

The Role

We currently have various permanent / staff positions available from our Perth Depot in Scotland, for Supervisors, Bricklayer(s) and Stonemason(s) with experience in the rail industry.

 

  • Read the engineers or architects’ plan.
  • Responsible for building or repairing walls in accordance with construction plans.
  • Responsible for constructing brickwork by laying bricks using the correct mortar mixture.
  • Measure the work area.
  • Set out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course.
  • Mix mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer.
  • Lay the bricks on top of each other and apply the mortar with a trowel.
  • Shape and trim bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools.
  • Interface with other operatives / trades to prevent clashes.
  • Check that courses are straight and level using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines.
  • Other tasks as may from time to time be deemed necessary and are authorised by line managers.

 

Requirements

To excel in this/these positons, you will have previous railway experience as a Supervisor, Stonemason and/or Bricklayer. Ideally you will have a valid PTS and must be able to demonstrate the requisite experience in the rail industry with associated competencies / certification as appropriate to the role you are interested in (i.e. City & Guilds / Time served Bricklayer).
