We currently have multiple apprenticeships opportunities within our Engineering department and are hiring in several specialisms:

  • Digital Signals & Telecoms
  • Electrical & Mechanical
  • Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance Planning
  • Network Presentation & Maintenance
  • Rolling Stock Maintenance
  • Track Maintenance

As an Engineering Apprenticeship you will develop key competencies of your specialism by combining ‘on the job’ learning alongside receiving training from a college provider.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Learning to use tools, equipment, and technology specific to your specialism.
  • Learning to develop engineering maintenance skills.
  • Applying structured techniques to common and non-routine problems and fault diagnosis.
  • Assist in planning small works and project works.
  • Being a team player, acting professionally and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders across the business, and customers.
  • Contribute to building an inclusive culture, taking a zero-tolerance approach to behaviours and attitudes that don't support Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Ensure own health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace, ensuring the zero harm principles and just culture is demonstrated in all ways of working. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Studying and completing (depending on specialism selected):
    • Level 2 Property Maintenance Operations - Network Presentation & Maintenance Specialism
    • Level 3 Business Administration - Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance Planning
    • Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) - Digital Signals & Telecoms, Electrical & Mechanical, Rolling Stock Maintenance and Track Maintenance

What you’ll bring:

Essential

  • Be 16 years or older.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics (Grade 4/ C or above)
  • Good Communication Skills- Building good relationships is fundamental to the delivery of services.
  • Organisational Skills- The ability to manage your own workload and to work to deadlines.
  • Teamwork and Cooperation- The ability to work flexibly in a team and contribute to a supportive work environment.
  • Adaptability and flexibility- some night and weekend work will be required.

 

Desirable:

  • Basic tool-handling and/or electrical, joinery, carpentry, plumbing or painting.
  • Full driving licence (Requirement for Network Presentation & Maintenance specialism only)

 

Application Process

  • Selected candidates will be informed via email and invited to an assessment centre in mid-July at our depots in Manchester.
  • Appointed candidates following the assessment centre will be required to complete a pre-employment check including a safety critical medical examination.
