Mitsubishi Power Europe Ltd (MPW-EU) are providing end to end services to Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Generators, Controls systems and Accessory systems of OEM and OOEM (Other OEM) products to increase efficiency, reliability and availability throughout the entire lifecycle of the assets. MPW-EU is a pioneer on delivering latest technology to modernize upgrades, remote monitoring, and lifetime extension, digital solution (TOMONI) to optimize power plant performance and make the plant competitive in the ever-changing dynamic marketing environment.

A Component Repair Engineer will support the maintenance and repair activities of Mitsubishi and Hitachi Steam and Gas Turbines and associated hardware. They are also involved in developing flexible and novel solutions to technical problems that arise during operation. We are looking for a candidate who wants to develop a career within a multi-national engineering organisation.

The successful candidate will bring a solid foundation of engineering knowledge and will support during Quality inspection, assessment and reporting of component condition as well as repair procedure development and technical reporting on an expansive range of Steam turbine and gas turbine related components and materials. Working with subcontract companies to supervise and manage repair activities, the successful candidate would also support on-site inspection of gas and steam turbine rotors and valves during the delivery of site service. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience from working in an engineering service environment however they will have the opportunity to develop their ability and capability in this role.

This role is based in our Leeds UK office.

 

Job Description:

 

  • Support the operation and maintenance of Mitsubishi Power Gas and Steam Gas Turbines including component repair and Rotor Inspections.
  • To develop a detailed understanding of high temperature components, their design, material composition, coatings and repair processes.
  • Perform a Technical Advisor role during machining activities, perform quality control inspection checks and liaison visits to Mitsubishi Power repair vendor workshops.
  • To assist in the preparation of Gas and Steam Turbine technical repair procedures etc. following the instruction of the Engineering Manager or Engineering Director.
  • To support creation of RFQs (Request for Quotation) and PS (Purchase Specifications) etc following the instruction of the Engineering Manager or Senior Director to Suppliers and partners.
  • Respond to internal and external customer requests for technical issue resolution, using technical product knowledge and analytical skills while adhering to sound engineering principles, standards, practices, procedures.
  • Escalate issues as required acting as the liaison between service delivery and design teams to drive technical resolution and to help engineering identify, drive corrective methodologies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with repair centres and internals customers to ensure technical issues/requirements are understood and addressed in a timely manner
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Prepare technical repair reports for Customers ensuring the timely communication of significant issues or developments.
  • Travel to customer locations to inspect and evaluate components requiring repair and to attend review meetings.
  • To support unplanned/forced outages to meet the Customer's needs.
  • Provide commercial teams with technical support for sales and services proposal activities.
  • Act as interface between commercial, service and repairs.
  • Development of proactive working procedures for future work efficiency.
  • To participate in the identification and resolution of Technical Non-Conformities and Requests for Actions.

 

Person Specification:

 

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree.
  • A strong theoretical knowledge relevant to the Gas or Steam Turbines.
  • Experience working with CAD and Fluid dynamics theory would be advantageous but not essential.
  • A strong understanding of conventional machining techniques and applied tolerances would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Demonstrable organizational skills.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team-orientated approach.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team with people with different cultures and nationalities.
  • Fluency in business English, understanding of Japanese culture would be an advantage.
  • Ability to produce technical reports in English.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
