Do you have a highly developed understanding of maintenance activities? Do you have extensive knowledge of working safely within a rail or similar environment? Do you have the ability to fault find and undertake diagnostic fault investigations? If so, joining KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM) as a Tram Maintenance Technician may be for you.

As a Tram Maintenance Technician at KAM, you will complete the tram maintenance requirements working closely with the on-shift Team Leader and Tram Maintenance Team in delivering the maintenance plan by completing maintenance, corrective tasks and fault-finding activities safely, to schedule and in compliance with the Maintenance Task Instructions, Risk Assessment & Method Statement.

You will be part of a 24/7 shift rota and provide 24/7 front line support for the tram maintenance programme in accordance with the maintenance documentation and where required supply support to the Tram Maintenance Team.

Key accountabilities

As a Tram Maintenance Technician at KAM, your key accountabilities will be:

  • Embed a zero-harm culture with Safety considerations at front of mind for everyone
  • Contribute input into the KAM safety systems.
  • Contributes and take part in annual identification and quantification of risks to complete the risk assessment register.
  • Contributes to completing the maintenance of assets in line with the tram maintenance instructions.
  • Follows the policies, standards and guidelines for the maintenance of the tram fleet and associated assets.
  • Provide prompt and constructive feedback on problems identified during maintenance of tram fleet and associated assets.
  • Only complete tasks that they are trained and competent to do.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Carry out tasks as defined in the tram maintenance instructions to ensure assets are correctly maintained.
  • Complete and ensure asset management records both paper and software based are accurate and up to date.

Knowledge and Experience

• NVQ Level 3 / Advanced modern apprenticeship
• Proven experience in a large maintenance environment with a focus on safety and maintenance completion to plan.
• Knowledge of maintenance activities within a large multi-disciplined team.
• Experience in an operational transport and maintenance environment.
• Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, within a transport environment and from a maintenance perspective.
• Experience or knowledge of the importance in keeping asset management records updated both paper and software based.
• A comprehensive understanding of fault-finding techniques using known tools such as FMEA and root cause analysis.
• Knowledge and experience of following Maintenance instructions.
• Knowledge in one or more of maintenance in the systems below;
- Electrical Electronic.
- Mechanical.
- Hydraulic.

About you

To join KAM as a Tram Maintenance Technician, you should have:

• Extensive maintenance skills with proven track record in a relevant discipline.
• Highly developed understanding of maintenance activities.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including with internal functional areas of the business, as well as external agencies such as TFGM, Original Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers.
• Extensive knowledge of working safely within a rail or similar environment.
• Knowledge of Tram maintenance or a comparable industry.
• Ability to follow maintenance instructions and complete asset management documentation.
• Ability to identify the root cause of system failures and complete repairs to prevent reoccurrence.
• Have the ability to work within a team to deliver maintenance requirements to the capacity model.
• The ability to work to programmes and amend as and when required to reflect present processes.
• Ability to fault find and undertake diagnostic fault investigations.
• Have good communication skills.
